The Badger Goes to Italy: Buy Box Tracking on Our First Non-English Marketplace

Buy Box Checker now tracks amazon.it. It is the first marketplace we support where the product page is not in English. Here is what is live today, how to start, and how we checked it before switching it on.

What's new

  • amazon.it is live. Create a brand for Italy, add ASINs, and each one is checked about once every 24 hours in every location you pick. It needs a paid plan.
  • Track by city or exact postcode. Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin and Palermo are one click each, and you can enter an Italian postcode of your own.
  • Euros and Italian titles. Who holds the Buy Box in each location, the price in euros, delivery dates, and the product title as Amazon prints it.
  • The free checker takes amazon.it too. Paste an amazon.it link and pick 3 to 5 Italian cities. No account needed.

Buy Box Checker now covers the UK, Canada, Ireland and Italy alongside the United States. Customers have asked us for marketplaces beyond the English-speaking ones, and Italy is the first. Tracking works the way it has since our first international launch. The new part was reading a page that is not in English.

How to start tracking amazon.it

amazon.it needs a paid plan. The Free plan tracks amazon.com only. The plans are in the pricing section.

  1. In your dashboard, click Add Brand and choose Italy under Country. A brand belongs to one marketplace, so Italy gets a brand of its own.
  2. Enter your Amazon storefront name exactly as amazon.it shows it, capital letters included.
  3. Add your ASINs and pick locations: the cities above, or exact postcodes under "Advanced: exact postcodes", within your plan's limits.

What you see for an Italian listing

For each ASIN in each location: whether your storefront holds the Buy Box, who holds it when you do not, the Italian product title, the price in euros, and the free and fastest delivery dates Amazon prints for that postcode. The cities you track are pinned on a map of Italy, Sicily and Sardinia included. A location tracked by exact postcode appears in the table, not on the map.

Amazon's Italian seller help says customers can see different Featured Offers, its name for the Buy Box, when they shop from different delivery locations. A product page opened from one address shows you one of them.

The free checker takes amazon.it too

The free Buy Box checker now accepts amazon.it listings. Paste an amazon.it product link that starts with https:// and the country switches to Italy by itself. Otherwise, pick Italy yourself. Choose 3 to 5 of the cities and you get, for each one, who holds the Buy Box, the price in euros and a delivery estimate in days.

How it works under the hood

We request each amazon.it page in Italian, at the postcode of the location you picked. Then we convert its delivery, date and sales wording into the forms every other marketplace uses. A delivery date printed as "martedì, 13 ottobre" is saved the way an English date is, and "2000+ acquistati" becomes the same sales band as "2K+ bought". Stock wording is sorted into the same categories and kept as Amazon printed it. That is why the dashboard, the alerts and the CSV export work the same for an Italian brand.

Before switching it on, we read the same amazon.it listings twice, once in Italian and once in English, and compared the two readings on seller, price, whether there was a Buy Box, delivery dates, stock, and sales volume. Of 135 listings, 126 had Italian wording to convert, and 125 of those gave the same reading in both languages on every one of those fields. The one that differed was an English response that arrived with no delivery information. Fetched again 14 minutes later, it showed the date the Italian page had given.

That is a comparison, not a proof. All 135 listings were read on one Friday evening, nearly all of them for one Milan postcode. Some wording, such as "domani" (tomorrow), never appeared on the pages we compared.

What is the same, and what to know

  • A check is a check. One ASIN in one location is one check against your plan, in Italy as anywhere else. Each one is read about once every 24 hours.
  • Alerts come in one daily digest, at the hour you set, by email and optionally Slack, Google Chat, Discord or a webhook.
  • Read-only, no Seller Central connection. We read public product pages and never ask for an Amazon login.
  • English product. The dashboard, the emails and support are in English.
  • Our first non-English marketplace. If a reading on an Italian listing looks off, tell us.

Everything else about Buy Box monitoring is unchanged. If you would rather read in Italian, we published a guide to the Buy Box on amazon.it the same day: Buy Box Amazon: cos’è, chi la vince e come monitorarla città per città. And if there is a marketplace you need next, tell us which one.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an Italian seller account to track amazon.it?

No. Buy Box Checker reads public product pages, so there is no Seller Central login and no connection to Amazon's seller APIs for any marketplace. You can track your own listings on amazon.it, or anyone else's, by adding the ASINs.

Can I track amazon.it on the Free plan?

No. Tracking any marketplace other than amazon.com needs a paid plan, and the Free plan tracks amazon.com only. The free Buy Box checker is separate: it accepts an amazon.it listing without an account, as a one-off check.

Which Italian locations can I track?

Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin and Palermo are offered as cities, and you can enter an exact Italian postcode instead. Each location is checked separately, and each ASIN in each location counts as one check, within your plan's limits.

Is the dashboard in Italian?

No. The dashboard, the emails and support are in English. Product titles appear in Italian because we read the Italian page, and prices on an Italian brand are shown in euros.

Does Italy use more checks than other marketplaces?

No. One ASIN in one location is one check against your plan, whichever country it is in. Each one is checked about once every 24 hours, and alerts arrive in one daily digest.

What did you check on amazon.it before switching it on?

We read 135 amazon.it listings twice, once in Italian and once in English, and compared the two readings on seller, price, whether there was a Buy Box, delivery dates, stock and sales volume. Of the 126 that had Italian wording to convert, 125 matched on every one of those fields, and the one difference was an English response that arrived with no delivery information. All 135 were read on one Friday evening, nearly all of them for one Milan postcode, so this describes what we saw and is not a guarantee.

See who holds your Buy Box in Italy

Paste an amazon.it link into the free checker, pick your cities, and see who holds the Buy Box in each one in about a minute. The check needs no account.
